Walmart Inc. Mexico has started to provide same-day delivery for some tech and home products that are ordered online by customers, the company said on Monday. It would delivery these products to its customers’ doorsteps within 3 hours of ordering. This comes as the company attempts to on Amazon which has quick shipping for its customers.
The same-day delivery services will be available for about 12,000 products which a limit on their dimensions. These include cell phones, clothing irons, laptops and televisions, the company informed.
As the American multinational opened two new distribution centers in Mexico for its e-commerce services. The country is Walmart’s largest market overseas in terms of store count. The move of opening distribution centers seemed to be one to increase the logistics in the country as well as increase the competitiveness of the company’s e-commerce service.
Amazon, which entered the Mexican market back in 2015, also offers same-day delivery in the country for certain kinds of products.
The speed of shipping and delivery of products has become an essential factor in being at the top in the e-commerce industry. Walmart recently started free next-day delivery for its customers in the United States in May, a move which came after Amazon did the same.
